5 fictional couples that have set our standards WAY too high

Whilst you sit at home and dread the fast approach of the 14th, here are some of my favourite fictional couples that you’ll thank for being single this year, you wouldn’t want to settle for anything less. Trust me.

  • Andy Anderson and Benjamin Barry in how to lose a guy in 10 days.

We see these two fall head over heels in love with each other after Andy puts all her efforts into trying to give Ben the ick. Meanwhile, Ben has a bet in place with his friends on how fast he can make a girl fall in love. Fortunately for these two enough was enough, it was time to give up the game and come clean, and they lived happily ever after.

  • Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore in the Vampire Diaries.

I think most of you will agree when I say that this pairing is a match made in heaven or hell, is that where vampires go? I mean, we all dream of meeting ‘Mr Right’ or ‘Mr Perfect’, but that’s the polar opposite of Mr Damon Salavtore. But none the less, he loves deeply and truly. There’s nothing more in the world that he loves more than Elena Gilbert, he’s even killed people for her, how romantic.

  • Vanessa Shanessa Jenkins and Neil Smith in Gavin and Stacey.

Through all the messy one night stands and meaningless relationships these pair have dealt with, there’s no denying it’s not the real deal. Despite all the upset with Ness nearly marrying Dave and Smithy’s on and off relationship with teenager Lucy, they have always managed to pull through in the end, they belong together. And I know I’m not the only one who’s dying to know if Smithy said yes or not! Come on, you’ve made us suffer long enough.

  • Rue Bennet and Jules Vaughn in Euphoria.

The girls were inseparable from the second they met, some say it was love at first sight for Rue. She felt conflicted when Jules left town for a few days, almost like her whole world had come to an end. Upon Jules’ return, she had told Rue about a girl she had gotten intimate with, but it was all forgotten and forgiven. Although these two have a very complicated but beautiful relationship, nothing was ever set in stone about their relationship status, so maybe season two will answer some highly anticipated questions we all have!

  • Michael and Jay Kyle in My Wife and Kids.

If this isn’t true love, I don’t know what is. This perfectly imperfect duo have had everything you can think of thrown at them and never failed to overcome each problem, with a few bumps along the way. A healthy marriage, three great kids and never-ending laughter, what more could you want? We laughed and cried with the couple for 4 years until they decided to stop filming in 2005. Petition for a reboot? I think so!

Whilst most fictional couples we see on our screens often seem farfetched and almost like a dream, this lovely bunch have been faced with normal day to day obstacles that one or two of us has or will have to deal with at some point, minus all the blood and fangs of course. So just keep that in mind and never settle for less!
